PROGRAM: Support

TITLE: COOK/SHIFT SUPERVISOR (Elmwood Heights/Rocvale/ Group Homes)

POSITION: Full Time 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m (Monday -Friday) Hours will vary at times.


BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of the Food Service Director; assist and prepare items for client meals as needed. Will train new employees and supervises Dietary Department in the absence of the Food Services Director. Will help in any training for all Milestone staff concerning food service operations. Will prepare and order milk, bread and food items weekly and assist and supervise food delivery and stock.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Fills in for all employees on vacation, personal or unforeseen circumstances.
  2. A. Check all food being sent to clients.
  3. Check that all food is being prepared properly.
  4. Check that food temperatures are proper and maintained
  5. Check all meals on homes and group homes for quality, looks, taste, and that proper

portions are being served.

  1. When filling in for other cooks will follow their job duties for that shift such as producing meals according to menus, delivering supplies and foods to homes, dishing up special diets as needed.
  2. Maintains standard of work schedule, health, safety, and sanitation.
  3. Reviews with Food Service Director any dietary concerns on a daily basis.
  4. Maintains food service dress code.
  5. Must be able to clean all areas of kitchen.
  6. Make trips to vendors for supplies if needed.
  7. Must make food surveys on a regular basis.
  8. Responsible for keeping all diets and diet records in order. Will update all lists /records used as needed.
  9. Will label bags for cooks and update them as needed. Will create bag sets for meal delivery weekly.
  10. Responsible for inspections on homes for cleanliness in kitchen area only.
  11. Responsible for maintaining inventory of food items (dry and refrigerated) on hand and for the ordering of items as assigned by the Food Service Director.
  12. Responsible for receiving stock. Will keep the stock room, refrigerator and freezers in order and inspect them as needed.
  13. Responsible for organizing food and other items for individual outings and special occasions.
  14. Will help Food Service Director in conducting evaluations of other food service employees.
  15. As a working supervisor must work extra hours or days if needed.
  16. Will work along with Food Service Director during inspections to ensure all requirements are satisfied and met.
  17. Will maintain strict confidentiality in carrying out responsibilities who reports directly to Food Service Director.
  18. In compliance with the Milestone Policy and Procedures regarding Human Rights, IMMEDIATELY intervenes on behalf of the individual(s) served and report to the appropriate agency (OIG, DSFS, IDPH) and/or supervisor.
  19. Will perform other duties as required or assigned by the Food Service Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be a high school graduate.
  2. Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
  3. Must have three years cooking experience.
  4. Must have Department of Public Health Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification within first 3 months of full time employment.
  5. May be required to lift 35 lbs.; anything over 35 lbs., they must ask for assistance before lifting.
